PIA Vietnam Attracts New Business

The inaugural PIA Vietnam exhibition and conference for process engineering, instrumentation and analysis and laboratory equipment successfully attracted a total of 5,620 trade professionals from 36 countries during the 4 day event held from 5 – 8 March 2008 at the HIECC in Ho Chi Minh City.

The opening of PIA Vietnam 2008 was presided over by the First Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce & Industry who explained that “investing to upgrade laboratories, measuring equipment used in scientific research to develop products is becoming a real focus for many departments and all companies in Vietnam”.The reports of PIA Vietnam 2008 reflected this sentiment with positive results from throughout the 116 companies from 17 countries that attended, this also included national pavilions from Germany, Singapore and the United Kingdom.

Mr. Henk Schaake, President of the Profibus Association South East Asia, reported that “PIA Vietnam 2008 was a big success. With over 400 customer registrations at our stand we created many interesting contacts and business opportunities for our sponsors. We have already planned to come back to PIA Vietnam 2009, which we believe will be a bigger success”. Mr. Geoff Young, Chief Executive of GAMBICA, coordinators of the UK Pavilion, explained that “the British pavilion exhibitors were very pleased with their participation at the PIA Vietnam 2008 and are very optimistic about business opportunities in the Vietnamese market”.

Individual companies at the exhibition were equally enthusiastic, Ms Nguyen Thi Phung, Director of Tai Phat Laboratory said they “consider PIA Vietnam 2008 to be the best exhibition ever for analysis and laboratory industries which focuses on the quality of the visitors. Congratulations for the success of PIA Vietnam 2008 and we look forward to PIA 2009”. Ms Quynh Tram of Vina Chemosciences explained that they “had new enquiries which they hadn’t met before” and that their “principals overseas are very satisfied with the quality of visitors”.

PIA Vietnam 2008 was officially supported by 9 government Ministries and official industry organisations and of the 17 represented countries the highest participation was from Germany, followed by Singapore, Vietnam, the United Kingdom, USA, Italy, China, Malaysia, Japan and Korea. 87.83% of the visitors were from Vietnam, of those 86.99% were from the southern Vietnam. Of the 12.17% international Asian visitors the majority came from Singapore, followed by Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, the Philippines, Malaysia and China.

Quality was the overwhelming feature of the visitor audience to PIA Vietnam 2008, 20.64% of the professional buyers were corporate management, Chairman, Directors or owners, 19.94% were production management or engineers, 14.62% were from marketing or sales, 9.47% were general management, 5.83% were from research, development and design, 3% government and 2.02% from training and education.

Complimenting the exhibition programme and drawing a high level of professionals was the PIA Vietnam industry conference on “Training in Testing and Analysis”, led by the VinaLab and VinaTest Associations. The opening remarks from Dr. Nguyen Huu Thien, former Director General of the Directorate for Standards and Quality (STAMEQ) under the Ministry of Science and Technology,detailed the need for an industry focus and investment into quality testing and analysis as Vietnam embraces the challenges of globalisation and targets the lucrative export markets of the EU and the US.

Other specialised programmes included the Profibus seminar on “Open Solutions for the World of Automation”.

PIA Vietnam 2008 was organised by Bangkok Exhibition Services Ltd, members of the Allworld Exhibition Alliance, and VCCI Exhibition Services, members of the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
